At this week's meeting, Antrim County Commissioner Bill Hefferan and Antrim County Sheriff Kevin Hoch presented on the planned new Public Safety Center. In summary, the County's current facilities are spread out, outdated, and unsafe, particularly the jail, both for staff and inmates. The County has plans in place for a new combined facility with a $30M+ price tag. The plan is for a bond of $25M, which will be paid from annual revenue, however, as a backup in case of declining revenues, the County has a .56 mills levy on the ballot in November as a fall back option, although their hope is not to actually use the levy.
Thank you both for explaining the current state of affairs, as well as the ballot issue, and best of luck in November.
Upcoming District Conference in Muskegon
This year's District Conference is in Muskegon Oct 18/20. District Governor Brianna Scott has requested that each club send at least one representative, and at this time Bob Chaphalkur has plans to attend. Is anyone else interested in going to the event? Brianna also is looking for a gift basket showcasing each club's area to be auctioned off at the event with proceeds going to the Rotary Foundation. If you have an idea regarding a gift basket, please let me know.
At the same time, Brianna is also looking for a 1-2 minute video highlighting our club and home to be shown at the conference. Again, as my video production capabilities are limited to the TV remote, I'm looking for help with this project as well. Any budding Michael Moores out there who would enjoy this?
