President Eds' message:
My Final President’s message:
I enjoyed every moment as the president of the Elk Rapids Rotary Club. Unfortunately I feel as if I had no great accomplishments for which to take credit. Our club had another successful year but this was all due to the efforts of many of our members.
I look forward to my roll as a Past President. I look forward to attending upcoming morning meetings without having to constantly check my watch to keep the meetings on time. I look forward to reading some great insights in upcoming bulletins from our new leader. I'm not good at writing messages but I know that at least a few of you read the bulletins and that made me feel that my writing may have been worthwhile.
Our club will continue to change over time. We will adapt to societal changes and we will continue to improve our services to our community and our members. Our new President Doug VanCura will guide our club to more successes going forward.
Our club is only as good as our members and we have a great club.
Thank you for allowing me and trusting me enough to lead this club. I had fun and I hope I leave the club at least as good as it was when I first took office.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
June 2 morning meeting:
Leslie Meyers gave our club an update towards the status of the County owned Dams in Elk Rapids and Bellaire. It is great to see our County being proactive towards the repair of our County Assets. Some of the repairs to the Dams are not cheap. Every year the Dams go unfixed is a chance that there could be a catastrophe. Currently all the Counties WITH THE EXCEPTION of Grand Traverse County have agreed to Antrim County’s proactive plan. Unfortunately Antrim can’t proceed without a Grand Traverse agreement. Given past inflation trends every year we wait the costs will increase.
At the June 9 morning meeting, Don Watkins gave a great presentation towards a fund raiser he is undertaking. Don is taking advantage of his age and the Guinness book of World Records to become the oldest “wingsuiter”. Don is a very young 77 years old and will be jumping out of a perfectly good airplane in a flying squirrel apparatus. My terms not his. He is raising money for the Prytula Foundation USA, an organization geared towards helping those in the war torn country of Ukraine. Another example of some of the great things our Rotarians are doing. Here is QR code for the Prytula organization:

Curt McGee
June 16 morning meeting:
Kurt McGee offered a member forum. Among other things Kurt had an extremely interesting career in the Middle East. Kurt tends to be shy and a little introverted but I encourage all of you to attempt to get Kurt to talk about his past experiences. Kurt also revealed his organizational skills and we plan on asking him to use these skills to further advance Rotary’s mission.
Doug VanCura is giving Past President Ed a thank you gift. More images on our website. https://elkrapidsrotary.org/
