Thank you to Jim Porter who presented one of the best member forums that I've had the opportunity to hear. Jim spoke candidly about his path into the clergy, his strategy for ensnaring his then future wife while at seminary school, and the joys and challenges they've faced together raising three children. It was a great way to get to know Jim better, and made up entirely for the bitterly cold drive to Jac's Place Tuesday morning.
We also had both Former Pres. Paula and Terry Miller at the meeting. It was good to see both of them after a long absence. Unfortunately Jim Hockin wasn't able to make it, with Carol saying he's again in a lot of pain, so keep him in your thoughts.
Board Meeting
The club Board of Directors took action on several things at it's meeting Tuesday.
Agreed to change the Tuesday morning meeting time to 8am-9am starting with the February 4 meeting. This is in response to a survey that Sherry put out for us a few weeks ago that showed the 8am start as the overwhelming favorite. This will be, for now, through the end of March, at which time we'll re-evaluate.
Approved the by-laws for our 501C3 entity with a few adjustments as provided by Nancy Wonch. Thank you again Nancy for all your work on this.
Approved the GW Committee budget of $62,550.
Approved a $2,000 grant for the ERHS Robotics program.
Discussed a 75th Anniversary celebration and gave the committee a budget limit of $5,000 to explore options for a combined club/community event.
Next Week's Program
Our own Bryan McKenna, ERS Supt., will give us an update on the schools at next week's meeting. This will also give us the opportunity to recognize and thank Victoria Wilson for her with with the ERHS Interact Club.
Scholarship Applications
Sherry and Terry have worked together to get updated applications for area high school students to apply for the Rotary Club of Elk Rapids scholarships available on the website. If you know of a student who would qualify and benefit from the help, please point them toward the website and have them apply.
Greeter and Words of Wisdom Needed
We need volunteers for both the Greeter position and the Quote person for next week's meeting. Please let me know if you're available and able.
