President's Message
After Glori Crowell's update on the Free Food Library I shared with her that I was tired just from hearing all of the things she's part of in our community! What an amazing lady. She shared with us the status of the 24/7 food pantry and answered questions for about 20 minutes regarding the program our grant helped start.
Channel 7 & 4 Up North recorded Glori's
interview about the new Little Free Food Library.
Currently the operation is on hold while a plan for affixing the pantry shed in place is developed and implemented, as has been required by the County. As soon as that's done, Glori expects to be open for business, and she's expecting a lot of consumers because hunger is still a real problem in our area.
Foundation Bob/Robot Bob
At his week's meeting Bob Chaphalkar told us that our club's combined giving amounts currently to about $34/member toward our 2025 goal of $100/member. We have until the end of June to reach the $100/member goal to be eligible for district grants. And, if you weren't aware of it, Bob has gotten involved with the ERHS Robotics team, which we've supported financially. Well done, Bob, on both accounts!
Grant Reviewer Opportunity
Club members have an opportunity to participate as a volunteer reviewer for Rotary Charities spring 2025 application cycle. Reviewing applications is an engaging and rewarding way to give back to our community and be a part of awarding grant funding to organizations in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Leelanau counties.
If interested, contact Kendra Luta at Rotary Charities of Traverse City. The deadline for volunteering is March 10.
75th Year Anniversary Party
Plans are underway for a celebration of our club's 75th anniversary, tentatively set for June 9 at the Elk Rapids Marina in the evening. We're not yet ready to announce everything, but you might want to make sure your Hawaiian shirt still fits, dust off your flip flops, and look for a parrot to bring to the event! More to come as the plans are firmed up, but save the date. You only turn 75 once!
