This past week we were alerted by the District that there was about $21,000 in unused matching grant funds still available, and grant requests would be considered for the leftovers until Nov 6. Several club members worked on different ideas and options in the last few days to take advantage of the opportunity, and that culminated Tuesday morning in approval to grant $1,000 to a new 24-hour food pantry at the ERDL. Our grant will hopefully be matched by the district for a total of $2,000.
This is a great example of people who care coming together and making something happen.
Fundraising Campaign
Ed is still reminding us that the fundraising campaign is active, and we are still working toward funding our activities for this year. Personally, I am still looking for the fruits of some seeds I've planted, and although it would be great to have everything accounted for now, some of these take a little longer, and that's ok. I'm hoping my efforts will pay off well, and I know we can afford to be patient.
So, if you still have opportunities hanging out there, or you just haven't gotten your contacts done yet, no problem, take some time and make it happen. And thank you all for supporting the club.
Tradition Reminder
As we near the end of this election cycle, it's a good time to remind ourselves that Rotary has a tradition of not endorsing or promoting candidates for public office at club meetings. While, of course, we often have elected officials as members, and it's fine to invite elected officials or those running for office as guests, Rotary has avoided mixing our purpose of doing good in the community with any position on candidates for office or ballot proposals.
