President's Message
Did you know that in addition to the scholarships that our club awards each year to area students, our club was also instrumental in setting up what is now the Elk Rapids Scholarship fund? This fund
also awards scholarships each year, but surprisingly, we've not had any Rotarians on the selection committee. Would you like to be part of that? We have the immediate need for 1-2 club members to serve on the Committee reviewing applicants. Rob Ford is the Chairman, and for more information or to volunteer please contact Rob and/or me.
The Prize Goes To...
After tucking in the Meeting Schedule here in the bulletin a few weeks ago "Closed for the Holiday" for the April 1 meeting,
someone finally asked about that. And, the winner is...
Nancy Wonch!
Thank you Nancy for showing that someone actually does read this, which Terry and I appreciate, because it takes more work than you'd think, even for a guy with a Journalism degree and a tech wizard. And if you're still scratching your head, April 1 is April Fools Day. And, no, the meeting isn't cancelled, but come prepared because there's no telling what Mel, Ed, and Doug will have in store for us.
Grant Reviewer Opportunity
Club members have an opportunity to participate as a volunteer reviewer for Rotary Charities spring 2025 application cycle. Reviewing applications is an engaging and rewarding way to give back to our community and be a part of awarding grant funding to organizations in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Leelanau counties.
If interested, contact Kendra Luta at Rotary Charities of Traverse City. The deadline for volunteering is March 10.
Board Meeting
After the regular meeting Tuesday the board will have it's monthly meeting. One of the agenda items is a $6,000 request from Warm Hearts to be used for desks in a school we've supported in Malawi, as well as other items. All members are invited to board meetings, of course, which are scheduled from 9:15-10:15am.
75th Year Anniversary Party
Plans are underway for a celebration of our club's 75th anniversary, tentatively set for June 9 at the Elk Rapids Marina in the evening. We're not yet ready to announce everything, but you might want to make sure your Hawaiian shirt still fits, dust off your flip flops, and look for a parrot to bring to the event! More to come as the plans are firmed up, but save the date. You only turn 75 once!
